education reimagined
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEARN?
People work hard when they feel a sense of purpose.
School should help them find it.
We need your help to make this happen.
To realize this important option for Teton Valley students and families, we need your help. Our vision is clear, the need is great, and our fundraising goals are ambitious. To contribute to this worthy venture, take action below, or contact Peter Poutiatine for more information about opportunities for enabling gifts.
Tetons West Experiential High School is redefining how students go to school. We are a proposed four-year, college prep, independent school – and we intend to break the mold in meaningful ways.
With a personalized approach to learning and a redesigned curriculum of academic fields of study, we seek to infuse education with meaning and relevance. Whether you are headed directly to college after high school, or launching a career, or pursuing a dream, we believe school should help you get there by equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and drive to travel your chosen path with confidence and purpose.
Our program emphasizes projects, place, and outdoor experience to bring unparalleled rigor and relevance to the student experience. We value excellence, community, and service to the common good. We work to promote an intentional culture of positive relationships, inclusivity, support, and accountability. And our mastery-based assessment system ensures that each student receives the support they need to achieve proficiency before moving on in the curriculum.
The result is a sense of purpose in real learning, a feeling of belonging to a worthy community, and the applicable skills, knowledge, and confidence to write your own story through high school and beyond.
Educating through projects, place, and outdoor experience, Tetons West Experiential High School inspires, challenges, and equips all students to pursue a lifetime of unfolding interests, in community with others and in service to the common good.
Finding meaning and relevance in learning and life.
The Need for Positive Change in Education
From the TEDx stage at Marin Academy in San Rafael, California in 2013, Tetons West Founder, Peter Poutiatine makes the case for positive change in education, including personalization, interest-born learning, performance assessment, and service to the common good. At this point in his career, Poutiatine had been a classroom teacher and an outdoor educator for 20 years. Although Tetons West Experiential High School had not yet been conceived, the underlying educational ideas were well into development.
